Quite a number of people are interested in talking about the Metaverse in recent times. Emerging eighteen months off Zoom and Netflix in the form we’d never imagined. It’s obvious metaverse is a cool concept from the tech point of view. Covid-19 had flipped the world upside-down. Hence there are urgencies to develop new ways to live and work. The metaverse borne out of disruptive approach—attracts companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Roblox, and Epic Games to structure their business.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced he’d changed the company’s name to Meta Platforms Inc. And wants to dive into it. Yet, despite being prominent, the metaverse is relatively not understood. People could not point out; what exactly is the metaverse? What role it has come to play? Is it a company or a new name? All these questions have made curiosity abound.
It’s possible to think — technology ought to ditch us into a simpler way of life. But metaverse doesn’t seem as much as an answer. It’s obvious technology is advancing. And the fresh perspective is the goal to achieve it. That is; a technology that connects the real world with the digital version. Metaverse is the real world; an experience of the reality made better.
What is the Metaverse?
The metaverse is a digital reality that combines aspects of social media, online gaming, augmented reality, virtual reality, and cryptocurrencies to enable the interaction of users virtually. It is the next evolution of social connection: one embedded with data, information, services, and interactive creations. Hence, as the metaverse grows, it will create online spaces. And allows multiple interactions between users than the current technology supports. So, instead of just viewing digital content, users on it will be able to immerse themselves in a space. That is, where the digital and physical worlds converge.
This is what we mean — Metaverse builds the real world and lies at the intersection of two technical states; It syncs millions of users and the virtual object they interact with, then connects them and the objects precisely to the physical world. So, those millions of users can create, change, and interact with digital objects in the physical world and that experience is consistent and shared by everyone. We are all seeing the same thing, the same enhancements to the world. If you change something it’s reflected in what I see, and vice versa.
The metaverse is crucial because it will enhance human connection and unprecedented access to opportunity, regardless of your location. Over time, physical location has dictated how we live. We’ve been forced to live close to our workplace, and could rarely meet friends and family living elsewhere. Many of us grew up via social media with most social interactions taking place in chat rooms. Yet, the internet is limited in interaction and there was no joy of being together physically.
The problem has got a hit by the metaverse; an internet that offers a sense of place and facilitates rich human connection. It’s possible you work with your teammates, have conversations, make important decisions via a virtual office. You can watch movies in a virtual cinema with your friends, attend a class with a teacher on your way to school or from your place.
This will pave way for streams of opportunities. As work, education, and career offer in the Metaverse will be open to anyone, no matter where they are. There will be the creation of new communities, as Metaverse becomes a rich world for you’ll interact with those you care the most about.
